Imagine IT Spring Update 1
Time is going by so quickly. Often I have to stop to reflect where we are and what do we need to finish to complete our project on time. Funny thing! We always seem to be able to catch up or get close enough to breath. Taking time to reflect, everything seems to be in order and close enough on schedule.
One of the big to do’s back in the fall was to create a Google Classroom to facilitate the discovery, reflecting, research, and documentation of student projects. I am pleased to say this is going well. While trying to determine how to assist students in their decisions of patterns research I determined that if I could ask a series of questions geared toward helping students discover what it is they wanted to build their patterns research around I could also help them choose something meaningful and unique to them. I am happy to say it is working. Some students have discovered they are even more interested in their pattern topic and some have discovered they don’t like their original choice at all and are in the process of changing. I am delighted with this because the students are truly engaged and can’t wait for Fridays to further investigate their projects. Yes! all the questions and reflection answers were facilitated through Google Classroom.
As a classroom we have investigated many aspects of mathematical patterns. This has been done through MARS Tasks, number games, ancient patterns games ( Gulugufe and Tarumbeta) as well as building patterns games. Much of this was done early on to engage students. Incorporating Quick Fires and WOW’s really helped. The students love the Quick Fires and are eager to present their WOW’s.
This is the final leg and I believe we are on course to successfully complete our mission. I am excited about the final projects (Pattern Websites).
