Final Report
What an enlightening endeavor this has been!
It all started last July when I walked into a room filled with 48 other STEM educators. I don't think I really knew what to expect but I knew it would prove exciting for my students. I truly don't know how I knew that but I somehow imagined it. It has been and continues to be a fantastic process. I started out our Lavizzo school year by explaining to the students about our Patterns Project. I believe the only thing my class heard was "you will build your own website" and that was enough for them. The best way to identify what we have learned as a class is to make a list.
- Google Classroom
- Comic Storyboards
- Quickfires
- Problem Solving Mania
- WOW's
- Website Construction
It is almost difficult to put into words what a great time we have had getting to this point. I was amazed at how quickly and proficiently students adapted to changes when we needed to make them and how using technology is almost innate to students today. This year has been proof that making technology the driver of the topic to be learned will bring amazing results. We have approximately two weeks to finish up the website construction and then I will make the phone call to our Network Chief inviting her to be part of our website presentations. Earlier this year when we were in the thick of it all our Network Chief visited our classroom unannounced and was elated at what she saw the students doing. When I explained a little more about it she asked that we invite her back for the presentation of the websites. Honestly, I am excited about her coming and also a little apprehensive. On second thought there is nothing to be apprehensive about. This group of 8th grade students has continuously amazed me all year why would it be any different now.
Please view the video below. I believe you will see what I am talking about from the expressions on the student faces and the content of their presentations.
